South Korean baritone Hyungjin Son has been praised for his “beautiful and well-controlled voice” and his “large, bronze-toned baritone.” A former member of LA Opera’s Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program, he has appeared with LA Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, and Boston Lyric Opera, and earned critical acclaim for his portrayal of the title role in Don Giovanni at the Merola Opera Program.​

Recent engagements include the title role in Benjamin Britten’s Noah’s Flood with LA Opera Connects, General Horemhab in Philip Glass’s Akhnaten, and the Speaker and Second Armored Man in Mozart’s The Magic Flute with LA Opera, as well as Ping in Puccini's Turandot. His company credits with LA Opera also include Prince Yamadori in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Gregorio in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, the Teacher in Golijov’s Ainadamar, and Marullo in Verdi’s Rigoletto. He made company debuts with Boston Lyric Opera and Pittsburgh Opera the Bonze in Madama Butterfly.​

Additional credits include Marcello in La Bohème, Falke in Die Fledermaus, Giove in La Calisto, Doristo in L’arbore di Diana, Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte, Mr. Putnam in If I Were You, “Pa” Zegner in Proving Up, and Sir Thomas in Mansfield Park.​

As a concert soloist, he has performed Mozart’s Great Mass in C minor with the NEC Philharmonia at Jordan Hall and Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem with the BU Symphony Orchestra at Symphony Hall.

His honors include being named a National Semi-Finalist in the 2023 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, a District Winner in 2022, and receiving an Encouragement Award in 2020.
